No words can express the Great job the Iola Fire Department and its crew of many helpers has done during the storm of Hurricane “Ike”. Iola can be very proud of all those that helped friends and neighbors at a time when it was needed the most. The Fire Station was open every evening at 7:00pm and served hot meals to everyone although there was no electrical power, they used their generators to provide lights and the power to serve hot meals to anyone who stopped by, they served 2000 meals at the station and delivered over 5000 hot meals to the needy. 428 bags of can goods, bottle water, and ice were distributed. We all owe a debt of thanks for a job well done.
