November 19, 2008 In Iola an $11 million school construction bond issue passed with 385 for and 375 against. According to school superintendent Douglas Devine, this was a record turnout ever for an Iola ISD election. Election Tuesday turned out to be a good day for incumbent candidates in Grimes County as District Attorney Tuck McLain, Sheriff Don Sowell and Precinct 1 County Commissioner John Bertling all outpolled their challengers.
Sheriff
Don Sowell won handily over Wayne Rucker, 5,598 votes to 2,729.
