The Board of Alderman of the Town of Iola met in regular session on November 11, 2008.  We had four veterans present:  Alderman Jerry Norman, Board Secretary J. Art Lozano, President-elect of the Iola Community Center Larry Adams, and Ira Betts of the Keown Foundation.

The council passed an ordinance changing the flow of traffic on Fort Worth St.  Traffic will be restricted to one-way, west to east, from 7 A.M. to 4 P.M. on days that Iola School is in session.  Previously, the street was one-way at all times.  Please allow time for the signs to be changed before traveling east to west. 

The council also adopted interlocal agreements for 911 and law enforcement services with Grimes County.  The county will continue to provide these services within our city limits, for the time being.

The city is currently working on the Texas Water Development Board grant application for the purpose of funding a waste water treatment plant.

Section one of the app is being turned in, and engineers from Jones & Carter hope to make our next council meeting to talk about that section, and next steps.  The council talked about the fact that we do not have a location for our plant, and will continue to study this matter.

The city is also studying imposing taxes for revenue for the city.

Revenue is needed to operate the plant on a daily basis, and keep our city government working. All citizen's are encouraged to attend our meetings, and keep in touch with council members regarding all of these issues.

The next regular session of the Board of Alderman of the Town of Iola is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Iola Community Center.

   The City of Iola is seeking a well qualified volunteer city attorney. Mr. Boggeus has resigned from the office.
